Details: The Hudson Bay lowlands are part of North America’s largest wetland. Over 300,000 square kilometers of muskeg, a vast bogland as far as the eye can see characterized by water soaked peat, mosses and stunted trees. Once thought of as barren wasteland, it is now understood that these bogs are crucially important to life on earth. Globally, there is as much carbon dioxide held in wetlands as there is in the atmosphere. The peatland ecosystem is the most efficient carbon sink on the planet.
